Yep...there's only a few weeks left for this decade! With all the rush of a busy holiday season we tend to forget about ourselves and before we know it we have hit a new year.
This holiday season why not take some time to pause, take stock and reflect on the past year. Think about all the moments, memories, adventures and achievements that have made up this year. This reflection time can be easily achieved in twenty minute relaxation baths during the led up to the new year. Just keep a pen and notebook close to journal your thoughts.
This year we also have a great opportunity to think about the new decade ahead. So why not ask yourself "What do you want 2020 and beyond to look like"?
We know it sounds rather daunting to think about. It doesn't have to be, simply start by keeping a regular journal of your thoughts and ideas. And from those journal notes you can create a life goal plan to assist with navigating and curating that life you want. You may have heard of a vision board, well a Life Goal Plan is extension of that only with extra thought and focus on the actions you need to do to obtain those things on the vision board. It's rather easy to do and you can follow our three easy steps to assist you with curating your own Life Goal Plan.
Before you get started try some meditation practices or anything that makes you feel calm and relaxed so you can enter the process with a clear and fresh mind. Personally, my preference is create my plan in the morning in an outdoor space with an ocean view with a great coffee. And don't worry if you take you more than a couple of sessions to complete the steps.
Step One
Congratulations on starting you'll have your meaningful Life Goal Plan before you know it!
Think about the things that were missing in your life in the past year or 3-5 years. What didn't you get to do or have? There are no boundaries here it can cover all aspects of your life. It may be as straight forward as not spending enough time on wellness. Make sure to journal these thoughts so you can refer to them later.
Step Two
It's time to focus and be honest with yourself.
Start to list and journal the things you want to have in your life and what you want to be surrounded by. Be honest here it's important to dig deep and get all the things listed down and across all areas of your life. For example, you may want to make Better health and wellness choices, more me/relaxation time, life balance, have more plant-based food in your diet, have better connections and relationships, travel more or simply spend more time in nature. More time spent in nature is one goal that I constantly have my own Life Goal Plan.
Now go back to the journal notes from step one and review that along with the list you just made of the things you want. Are there any inconsistencies? Do you feel that you have captured the your true aspirations of the life you want? Again there are no boundaries here, you can have one goal or have multiple things to focus on.
Step Three
You're nearly there....see it wasn't so daunting after all.
Firstly, recognize that the path ahead is a journey and not just a destination. This mindset will help you to set priorities and mindfully curate your path of life goals that are important to you. This is where you set your goals and develop a 'Journey path' of actual things you will do to achieve that goal.
I find that the best way to document your 'Journey path' is by drawing a line (kinda like a path) on a piece of paper (or on your favorite tech device) one end is where you are today and at the other end is where you want to be. Then you can start to document that actual activities (or things that you are going to do) to get you closer to bringing your life goal/s to fruition. For example, with my goal to spend more time in nature - my visual line starts the simple action of creating space in my days for connecting with nature or blocking time in my calendar, then another activity may be having more outdoor meetings, organizing family get togethers at a park and so on...... The end result will be a path or a journey of activities to get you goal. The visual display helps to keep you on track too.
My personal advice is not to set strict timeframes rather check in regularly on your Journey Path to see how you are going with your journey. I love to do these check-ins during my weekly relaxation baths when I feel rejuvenated and my mind is clear.
And finally, remember to adjust your journey and path of activities to respond to changes that may happen along your journey. And most importantly cross off and celebrate when you complete an activity on your Life Goal and Journey Path.
All the best and here's to a magnificent 2020 and beyond!
